Turning Idealism into Action – Organizing for Social Change
Idealism exists across generations, but many people find it hard to translate their good intentions into concrete action. They feel strongly about human rights, social justice, worker rights, women’s rights, gay rights, the environment, animal rights, and so forth, yet often do not know exactly how to contribute to these important causes. There is the problem of the intellectualization of social change within formal education, as students and teachers alike just critique and that’s where it all ends. As Samual Johnson once quipped “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” The challenge is to turn idealism into action. But what does taking that next step involve?
